Anyone injured in a car crash in Tennessee may have options for seeking compensation, depending on who was responsible. Medical records, evidence of fault, and insurance coverage can all influence whether a claim is available and what damages may be recovered.
To protect your health and document potential losses, seek medical evaluation and keep copies of medical records, bills, and prescriptions. Following medical advice and tracking symptoms can help establish the extent of injuries and related expenses, including ongoing treatment costs or lost income.
In addition to documenting injuries, it is important to preserve evidence that may help explain how the crash occurred. Photos of vehicle damage, witness information, insurance details, and the official crash report can help clarify the circumstances. Keep copies of claim-related documents and records of communications with insurers.
Once the available evidence has been gathered, it may help determine whether another party’s negligence supports a compensation claim. Eligible damages may include medical expenses, lost income, and other documented losses. Before accepting a settlement, carefully consider whether it accounts for future treatment and other expenses that may arise.
Alongside these practical steps, keep applicable legal deadlines in mind. Tennessee generally has a one-year statute of limitations for personal injury lawsuits, although exceptions may apply. Filing an insurance claim does not necessarily extend the deadline, so confirm the time limit that applies to your circumstances.
