Injured drivers in Jefferson County may seek compensation from a responsible party, use available insurance coverage, or file a lawsuit if settlement negotiations are unsuccessful. Your options depend on who was at fault, your insurance coverage, and the losses caused by the crash.
To support your claim, keep copies of the crash report, photographs, available video footage, medical records, bills, and proof of missed income. These records can help establish what happened and show how the crash has affected your finances and daily life.
After fault is established, you may be able to recover compensation for medical expenses, future treatment, lost income, vehicle damage, reduced earning capacity, and pain and suffering. The amount available depends on the extent of your injuries, financial losses, and the circumstances of the crash.
Under Tennessee law, you generally have one year from the date of the crash to file a personal injury lawsuit, although some exceptions may apply. Missing the applicable deadline could prevent you from pursuing compensation through the courts.
As your claim moves forward, a car accident lawyer in Knoxville can review the evidence and explain your legal options. An attorney can also negotiate with insurance companies and assess whether a settlement offer fairly reflects your losses.
