Left Turn Crash Causes Injury Crash on Shelbyville Rd in McMinnville, TN

October 6, 2026

McMinnville, TN (October 6, 2026) – A left turn onto Snow Hollow Road led to a collision on Shelbyville Road in McMinnville at about noon on Monday, October 5.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a preliminary report that said that an 18-year-old driver in a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic was heading west and tried to turn left. A 57-year-old driver heading east was approaching SR-55 at the time.

The two vehicles hit each other, and the 57-year-old driver was hurt.

We wish a full and speedy recovery to the injured driver.

Who Is Usually at Fault in Left-Turn Crash in McMinnville, TN?

A driver who turns left in Tennessee generally must yield to oncoming traffic close enough to be an immediate hazard, so the turning driver is typically found at least partly at fault. That is not automatic, though. If the oncoming driver was speeding, they can share fault, and Tennessee bars recovery at 50 percent of fault or more.

Left-turn claims usually come down to each driver's account, which leads to physical evidence carrying real weight. Intersection layout, lane markings, signal timing, sight lines, and the damage patterns on each vehicle can help show how far away an oncoming vehicle was and how fast it traveled.

Newer vehicles’ onboard data recorders, 911 recordings, and video from nearby businesses can also help reconstruct how an accident unfolded. However, it is important to act quickly to preserve it since some of that evidence can be overwritten or lost within days or weeks.

When insurers divide fault, even a modest shift in percentage can change what a claim is worth, and Tennessee's one-year filing deadline leaves limited time to gather support. To make this legal process easier to navigate, many drivers turn to a car accident lawyer in Tennessee to help them preserve physical and video evidence, review how an insurer reached its fault finding, and understand how the 50 percent rule may affect their claim.

If you are dealing with a fault dispute after a car accident, Fox & Farmer can help you look at how fault may be assigned to your specific situation and what evidence may be worth keeping.
