One Hospitalized After Apartment Fire on East Brainerd Rd in Chattanooga, TN

October 11, 2026

Chattanooga, TN (October 11, 2026) – One person was hospitalized with burns after a two-alarm fire broke out on Friday night, October 9, at MAA Hamilton Apartments on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga.

Fire crews were dispatched to the apartment complex in the 6500 block of East Brainerd Road around 8:12 p.m. after reports of smoke and flames coming from Building 700. Firefighters found flames on the first and second floors and quickly brought the fire under control.

About 20 apartments were affected, and management is helping residents find temporary housing. Officials confirmed that everyone affected had been accounted for.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Our best wishes go out to the person recovering from their injuries and to all residents affected by the fire as they begin to recover.

Who May Be Liable for an Apartment Fire in Chattanooga, TN?

Liability for an apartment fire in Tennessee depends on its cause and whether someone failed to meet a legal duty. Potentially responsible parties may include property owners, management companies, maintenance contractors, or manufacturers.

Landlords and property managers generally have duties to maintain reasonably safe rental properties. If faulty wiring, neglected repairs, or unresolved hazards contributed to a fire, investigators may examine whether those responsible knew or should have known about the problem.

Once the cause is investigated, residents who suffered injuries or property losses may have options for seeking compensation if another party was at fault. Potential damages may include medical expenses, lost income, and damaged belongings. Displaced residents should also review their renters insurance coverage for temporary housing and other eligible expenses.

Evidence can help clarify responsibility. Fire investigation findings, maintenance records, prior complaints, photographs, and receipts may support a claim. Residents should document their losses, notify their insurers, and keep relevant communications and lease documents.

Because liability depends on the evidence and applicable Tennessee law, residents should avoid assuming who is responsible before the facts are established. A qualified attorney can review the circumstances and explain whether a claim may be available.
