Nashville, TN (September 14, 2026) – At least one person was hurt on Monday morning, September 14, after a multi-vehicle wreck in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Fesslers Lane.
The accident happened around 7:20 a.m., according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. One person was taken by ambulance to St. Thomas Midtown Hospital. That person's condition has not been released.
One westbound lane and the road shoulder remained closed for several hours afterward as crews worked to clear the roadway and restore full traffic flow.
Police have not said what caused the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
We hope the person taken to the hospital recovers quickly and fully.
Evidence connected to a serious highway incident can disappear fast. Skid marks fade within days, debris gets cleared from the roadway, and damaged guardrails or barriers often get repaired quickly.
Tennessee follows a modified comparative fault rule, in which a person found more than 49 percent responsible for what happened cannot recover damages. Therefore, detailed evidence can shape how fault gets divided among multiple drivers, especially when several vehicles are involved on a busy interstate. Without dashcam footage, black box data, or witness accounts, it can be harder to show how each driver contributed to what happened.
Traffic cameras positioned along corridors such as I-40, I-24, or Briley Parkway sometimes capture useful footage, but many systems only retain recordings for a short period before deleting them. This is why it is so important to request that footage early, along with photos of vehicle damage and contact information for witnesses.
Medical records can also provide documentation of injuries and the treatment received after a highway incident. Keeping copies of hospital records, medical bills, prescriptions, and follow-up appointments can help establish the extent of losses. Vehicle repair estimates and insurance communications may provide additional information about property damage and the timeline of events.
It can also be useful to preserve photographs from different angles, including images of the roadway, traffic signs, lane markings, weather conditions, and surrounding barriers. Together, these materials may help create a clearer record before the physical evidence changes or disappears.
A car accident attorney can help identify which sources might hold relevant footage and can send preservation requests before recordings are lost.
