One Killed, Passenger Injured in UTV Crash on Grassy Fork Rd in Cocke Co., TN

September 13, 2026

Cocke County, TN (September 13, 2026) – One person was killed, and a passenger was injured in a UTV wreck on Grassy Fork Road around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11.

Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that a 2025 Can-Am Defender was traveling south on Grassy Fork Road from Snowbird Mountain with a driver and two passengers inside.

The UTV went off the right side of the road, rolled down the mountainside, and struck a tree before coming to rest.

One passenger was injured in the wreck. The other passenger was not reported hurt.

THP said no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the crash. The investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died and hope the injured passenger makes a full recovery.

What Legal Options Do Injured Passengers Have After a UTV Crash in Cocke County, TN?

An injured UTV passenger may be able to seek compensation through insurance or from another party that shares responsibility for the crash. A claim may cover medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses caused by the injuries.

When a UTV rolls over, determining why it happened can help show where a passenger’s claim may come from. The investigation may look at how the vehicle was being operated, its mechanical condition, the roadway, and any other factor that contributed to the crash.

If someone else owned or maintained the UTV, their role may also need to be examined. Poor maintenance, a mechanical defect, or another unsafe condition could create additional questions about responsibility.

Because UTVs are not always insured the same way as passenger cars, finding the available coverage may require reviewing more than one policy. The answer can depend on who owned the UTV, how it was insured, and whether other coverage is available to the injured passenger.

After a serious rollover, the financial effects can extend beyond the initial hospital visit. Follow-up care, rehabilitation, medication, missed work, and lasting physical limitations may all be included when the full value of the claim is considered.

If responsibility or insurance coverage becomes unclear, a personal injury lawyer can review the crash facts, available policies, and financial losses tied to your injuries. An attorney can also communicate with the insurance companies while you focus on recovery.
