Gruetli-Laager, TN (September 13, 2026) – One person was killed and several others were injured after a pickup truck struck people attending an auction along State Route 108 in Gruetli-Laager on Saturday, September 12. The crash happened shortly after noon.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the pickup reportedly traveled into the back of a tent set up for the auction. The truck struck several people before coming to a stop near the tent.
Reports indicated that about six or seven people may have been hit. One person died, while several others were injured.
State Route 108 was closed between Layne Funeral Home in Palmer and Laager Church following the crash.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the wreck.
We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died and hope those injured make a full recovery.
In Gruetli-Laager and elsewhere in Tennessee, the surviving spouse generally has the first right to pursue a wrongful death claim. If there is no surviving spouse, that right may pass to the person’s children or other next of kin.
When a surviving spouse brings the case, the claim can also benefit the deceased person’s children. The family usually does not need several relatives filing separate lawsuits over the same death.
In some cases, a personal representative may file the wrongful death claim for the family. That person can manage the claim and act on behalf of the relatives who may be entitled to compensation.
Because family circumstances can differ, questions sometimes arise over who has the legal right to move forward. This may happen when there is no surviving spouse, several relatives may qualify, or the family structure makes the order of priority less clear.
Depending on the case, compensation may account for financial losses connected to the death as well as the loss experienced by surviving family members. The amount available will depend on the circumstances and the losses that can be shown.
When there is uncertainty about who should file, a wrongful death lawyer can review the family circumstances and determine who has priority under Tennessee law. An attorney can also gather supporting records and handle discussions with the insurance companies involved.
