Who Pays My Medical Bills After a Pedestrian Crash in Memphis, TN?

After a pedestrian crash in Memphis, your health insurance or medical payments coverage may help pay your medical bills. The driver responsible for the crash may also owe these costs. However, their insurer does not automatically pay your bills as they arrive.

If the driver has no insurance or not enough coverage, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage may help pay for your losses. Whether this coverage applies depends on your insurance policy and the circumstances of the crash.

As you receive treatment, keep copies of your medical records, bills, and payment statements. These documents can help show what treatment you needed, how much has been paid, and what expenses you still owe.

Beyond medical bills, you may also be entitled to compensation for lost income and pain and suffering. If your injuries have lasting effects, you may be able to claim future medical expenses and reduced earning capacity.

If you were partly responsible for the crash, Tennessee generally allows you to recover compensation as long as you were less than 50% at fault. Your compensation is reduced by your share of fault.

In Tennessee, you generally have one year from the date of the crash to file a personal injury lawsuit. Some exceptions may apply, but missing the deadline that applies to your case could prevent you from recovering compensation through the courts.

If your injuries require ongoing care, a pedestrian accident lawyer in Tennessee can review your case and determine whether you may be able to recover future treatment costs. An attorney can also handle insurance negotiations while you focus on your recovery.

A pedestrian crash can leave you facing serious injuries, high medical bills, and complex insurance claims all at once. At Fox & Farmer, we stand by injured people across Tennessee to explain their legal options and guide them through recovery.
