Why Does Medical Documentation Matter After a Car Accident in Memphis, TN?

Medical documentation matters after a car accident in Memphis because it helps connect your injuries to the collision and shows the treatment you needed. Your medical history can also establish when care began and how your recovery progressed over time.

While your claim is open, medical payments coverage, if included in your auto policy, may help pay certain medical bills regardless of fault. Your health insurance may also cover eligible treatment, depending on its terms, deductibles, and other coverage requirements.

Beyond your medical bills, you may seek compensation for lost income, vehicle damage, and pain and suffering. The amount available depends on your specific documented losses and how the injuries affect your ability to work and carry out everyday activities.

If the other driver has no insurance, uninsured motorist coverage under your own auto policy may help cover your injuries. Whether payment is available depends on your policy terms, coverage limits, and the circumstances of the collision in your situation.

In Tennessee, you generally have one year from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit, although certain exceptions may apply. Missing this deadline could prevent you from recovering damages through the courts.

If an insurer disputes whether your injuries came from the crash, a car accident lawyer can review your medical records and use them to support your claim. An attorney can also review any settlement offer and help you decide whether to accept it.
