Two-Vehicle Crash Leaves Two Hurt on I-24 W in Nashville, TN

September 21, 2026

Nashville, TN (September 21, 2026) – Two people were injured late Sunday, September 20, in a wreck on Interstate 24 West.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the accident happened around 11:15 p.m. near mile marker 36, between Old Hickory Boulevard and Whites Creek Pike.

Officers at the scene found two drivers with minor injuries. Police said one of them was detained. Dashcam video shows one vehicle in a ditch and another completely upside down.

It is not clear how the wreck unfolded. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved as they recover.

What Are the Minimum Insurance Limits for Drivers in Nashville, TN?

Tennessee requires drivers to carry liability insurance with minimum limits of $25,000 for bodily injury or death to one person, $50,000 for bodily injury or death to two or more people in one accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Insurers usually shorten this to 25/50/25. Those numbers are a floor, not a ceiling, and a policy at the minimum can run out quickly.

Serious injuries can produce medical bills, lost wages, and long-term care costs that go well past a $25,000 limit. Drivers on Interstate 40 or Interstate 65 share the road with commuters, visitors, and commercial traffic, and no one can tell from the next lane how much coverage another driver carries. When the at-fault driver's policy falls short, a claim may need to turn to other sources of recovery.

One of those sources can be a person's own policy. Under Tennessee law, auto policies generally include uninsured motorist coverage, unless the policyholder rejects it in writing. This coverage may also apply when the other driver's limits are too low.

Policy language, exclusions, and notice requirements vary, so the details matter. Reading a policy alongside a car accident lawyer can help clarify which coverages apply, what notice an insurer requires, and how to approach talks with more than one insurer.
