Multiple People Injured in Three-Vehicle Wreck on I-81 in Sullivan Co., TN

September 16, 2026

Sullivan County, TN (September 16, 2026) – Multiple people were injured on Tuesday morning, September 15, after three vehicles crashed on southbound I-81 near mile marker 73 in Sullivan County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report, the vehicles were traveling in the left lane around 8:57 a.m. A 2024 Hyundai Kona was ahead of a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan, followed by a tractor-trailer.

The report stated that the Hyundai stopped for reasons still under investigation. The tractor-trailer then struck the Dodge, forcing it into the Hyundai. The tractor-trailer continued forward and also struck the Hyundai.

All three vehicles came to rest against the median guide wire. The Hyundai driver was not injured, while the tractor-trailer driver, the Dodge driver, and both Dodge passengers were injured.

The Hyundai driver was arrested and faces charges including DUI, an open container violation, reckless endangerment, and three counts of reckless aggravated assault.

We hope everyone injured receives the medical attention they need and makes a full recovery.

How Can Multiple Injury Claims Be Handled After a Crash in Sullivan County, TN?

When several people are injured in the same crash in Sullivan County, TN, each claim may involve different medical expenses, financial losses, and insurance coverage. Records for each person can be reviewed separately to determine what legal options may apply.

Medical treatment is one part of that review. Hospital records, diagnostic testing, medications, follow-up appointments, and rehabilitation can document the care received and related expenses.

An injury may also affect someone's ability to work. Pay stubs, employment records, work schedules, and missed-hour documentation can provide information about lost income during recovery.

Because three vehicles were involved, insurance coverage may require additional review. Vehicle policies, liability coverage, and applicable uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage may raise different questions based on the circumstances.

Crash evidence can provide further information for each claim. The crash report, photographs, witness accounts, available video, and vehicle damage records may help document what occurred and the losses involved.

Other expenses may also differ between injured people. Transportation, prescriptions, medical supplies, repairs, towing, and similar costs should be tracked separately to keep each claim's financial effects clear.

With these records organized, a car accident lawyer can review the circumstances and explain what legal and insurance options may potentially apply. An attorney may also identify additional documentation that could be relevant.
