What Damages Are Available for Serious Injuries in Clarksville, TN?

Tennessee law allows people with serious injuries to seek economic damages, such as medical bills, future treatment, and lost income, along with noneconomic damages for pain and loss of enjoyment of life. Noneconomic damages are generally capped at $750,000, but the limit rises to $1 million for certain catastrophic injuries, such as paralysis or amputation.

Future costs are typically the largest and hardest part to prove. Long hospital stays can lead to

surgeries, rehabilitation, home modifications, and years of follow-up care, and none of those bills exist yet when a claim begins. Treating doctors and cost-of-care specialists can estimate what an injury may require over time, and those estimates give a claim its shape.

Employment records, tax returns, and notes from a treating provider about work limits help show how an injury affects earning ability. Tennessee generally gives injured people one year to file a lawsuit, so a car accident lawyer can step in to review medical records, insurance coverage, and cost estimates early to help line up the evidence before that deadline approaches.

Serious injuries can bring costs that last long after the first hospital stay. At Fox & Farmer, we can explain how Tennessee damages rules and caps may apply to your case.
