What Legal Options May Follow a Fatal Fire in Williamson County, TN?

A fatal fire can raise questions about whether another person's negligence, a property defect, or another preventable factor contributed to the death. Tennessee wrongful death law allows certain surviving family members to pursue a civil claim when a death results from another party's wrongful act, neglect, or carelessness.

Potential damages can include funeral and burial expenses, medical expenses connected to the person's final treatment, lost wages and earning capacity, and losses associated with the relationship between the deceased person and surviving family members. The specific damages available depend on the facts of the case and the relationship of the person bringing the claim.

Evidence can be particularly significant in a fire-related death. Photographs, fire investigation records, witness accounts, property records, maintenance documents, and information about the property's condition may help establish how the fire started and whether another party may have contributed to the death.

When the cause of a fatal fire is disputed, a wrongful death lawyer can review the available evidence and explain what claims may be available under Tennessee law.
