Nashville, TN (August 11, 2026) – A 30-year-old man died early Tuesday morning, August 11, after a two-vehicle collision on Harding Place near Linbar Drive. The wreck happened around 2:45 a.m., according to Metro police.
Investigators believe a 32-year-old woman ran a red light while driving west and struck the driver's side of another vehicle as it went through the intersection. Both drivers were taken to a hospital, where the second driver later died.
The woman suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. She is expected to face a charge of vehicular homicide by intoxication once released from the hospital. A portion of the roadway was closed while investigators processed the scene.
The investigation into the wreck remains active.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
When a driver is suspected of driving under the influence in a fatal crash in Nashville, the criminal case and any civil wrongful death claim move on separate tracks.
A criminal charge like vehicular homicide by intoxication requires the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, a much higher standard than what's needed in a civil wrongful death claim, which only requires a preponderance of the evidence.
That means a family can typically pursue compensation through a civil claim even before, or regardless of, the outcome of the criminal case. Tennessee law allows a deceased person's surviving spouse, children, or next of kin to bring this kind of claim.
Evidence gathered during a DUI investigation, including the reported odor of alcohol and any results from field sobriety or blood tests, can also become central to a civil case, since it may help establish that the driver's impairment caused the crash.
A wrongful death lawyer can request access to police reports, toxicology results, and witness statements as they become available, using the criminal investigation's findings to support a separate wrongful death claim on behalf of the family.
