The teen and her grandmother were visiting family in Graves County when they were involved in the accident. The girl is known around the world for her martial arts skills. The teen holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has also won three world championships in martial arts.

The teenager was driving her grandmother home from visiting with family when their vehicle was struck by a 37-year-old man from Mayfield who has three DUI charges on his record.

The suspect was charged with the third offense of driving under the influence with aggravated circumstances. He was also charged with two counts of first-degree assault. Both women were transported via helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to the teen's father, the girl suffered multiple facial fractures and her back is broken in multiple areas. She also has broken ribs and her pelvis is shattered. The grandmother suffered a lacerated spleen, broken ribs, a bruised liver and had to undergo surgery to stop bleeding.
