Tennessee man faces federal charges in hit-and-run bike wreck

If you drive west of Knoxville for about three hours, you will come to the Franklin home of a Tennessee man accused of hitting a bicyclist on the Natchez Trace Parkway last month and then driving off, leaving the injured man in the road.

The school administrator faces federal charges after the hit-and-run accident on the national parkway. The Acting U.S. Attorney of the Middle District of Tennessee announced that the man has been indicted for reckless aggravated assault, lying to a federal agent and obstruction of justice.

Injuries to the bicyclist in the incident were described in previous news articles as serious but not life-threatening.

The indictment states that the driver told a National Park Service investigator that the bicyclist threw his bike into the black Volvo. The car was identified in a video taken with a helmet-cam worn by another cyclist.

The video was posted to social media. When the driver's son saw it, he went to police and said he recognized his father's car from the stickers on the rear window. When police went to investigate, the stickers were not present on the Volvo.

Officers noticed that the vehicle's right front end where the bicyclist had been hit had been cleaned.

When officers discussed the condition of the car with the driver, he said the cyclist had thrown his bicycle at the Volvo. However, he then admitted removing the stickers to avoid identification.

He was arrested at his home.

Criminal justice is one part of the equation. For those who are injured, an even more important part is getting the care they need and receiving compensation for the damages they have suffered.

A Knoxville attorney experienced in car accident litigation can help you get the justice you deserve.
